OEM Garden Hoes from China: Logo Stamping and Custom Packaging Explained

OEM Garden Hoes from China: Logo Stamping and Custom Packaging Explained

Most garden hoe factories in China already run OEM orders. Putting your brand on the tool is usually the easy part.

The hard part is choosing the right branding method and packaging level for your market.

Some logo methods cost almost nothing. Others need a steel die and a minimum order quantity in the thousands.

This article explains each option, its cost driver, and the MOQ you should expect. Use it to brief your supplier clearly.

The order of your decisions matters. Choose the logo method first, because it sets the tooling cost.

How Logos Are Applied to Hoe Heads

There are four common methods for putting a brand on a hoe head.

The most durable is die stamping during forging. A hardened steel die presses your logo into the hot metal.

The mark becomes part of the head, so it survives years of use. This is the method serious tool brands choose.

Die stamping requires a one-time die cost, and a minimum quantity per logo.

Laser engraving is the second option. It works well on painted or coated heads and needs no die.

Laser marks are sharp and precise, but they sit on the surface and can fade with heavy abrasion.

Pad printing or screen printing is the cheapest method. It suits promotional orders and low-cost lines.

Printed marks wear off quickly, so avoid them on premium products.

Ask your supplier which method they recommend for your price point and market.

Ask them for a sample head with each logo method if you are unsure.

Feeling the mark in your hand is faster than reading about it.

Check the placement as well. A mark on the blade face is visible but wears first.

A mark on the neck survives longer and still shows clearly in product photos.

Handle Branding and Color Options

Handles carry a lot of brand space, and buyers often forget to use it.

On wooden handles, the usual method is a heat-transfer label or a printed sticker.

A small engraved or burned-in logo also works, and it looks more premium.

On fiberglass handles, suppliers can print your brand directly and match a Pantone color.

Custom handle color is a separate choice from the logo. It usually needs a minimum paint or resin batch.

Ask for the color reference in writing, using a Pantone or RAL code, not a photo.

Also confirm the handle length and the wood species if you order wooden handles.

Custom Packaging Choices and Their Costs

Packaging usually costs more than buyers expect, and it decides the retail look.

The simplest option is a bulk export carton. It is the cheapest and best for industrial buyers.

Next is a poly bag with a printed header card. It is common for garden centers.

A euro-hole hang tag lets your product hang on a retail pegboard. It is cheap and effective.

A color printed box gives the strongest shelf presence, and it costs the most per unit.

Blister cards look secure and professional, but they need tooling and a bigger minimum.

Shrink wrap with a printed label sits between the bag and the box in price.

Your supplier should send a packaging mockup photo before mass printing starts.

Ask for the carton dimensions and the quantity per carton with every packaging option.

Packing choice changes container loading, so it changes your landed cost.

One large carton is cheaper to pack but heavier to handle in a warehouse.

Many buyers choose two cartons per hoe model, so one stays sealed in storage.

What MOQ Applies to Custom Branding

Minimum order quantities depend on the step you customise, not on the hoe itself.

Standard hoe models with a sticker brand often start around 500 to 1,000 pieces.

Die stamping on the head usually starts around 1,000 to 3,000 pieces per logo and model.

Custom handle color often needs a similar quantity, because it runs as a separate batch.

Printed color boxes usually require 1,000 units or more, plus a plate or die cost.

Ask for the MOQ per model, not per order. Mixing models can lift the total quantity fast.

If your first order is small, start with a sticker brand and standard cartons.

Then add die stamping and printed packaging on your second or third order.

Some factories also charge a separate logo die fee, often a few hundred US dollars.

Ask whether that fee is refundable, and whether it is credited against future orders.

Ask who owns the die, and whether it can be moved if you change supplier.

Get the die ownership in writing. It protects your brand and your investment.

Preparing Your Brand Files Before Production

Good files prevent expensive reprints. Prepare them before you confirm the order.

Send your logo as a vector file, in AI, EPS, or PDF format. Avoid sending only a JPG.

Check that thin lines in your logo still print clearly at the real size on the head.

Decide the exact placement: on the blade face, the neck, or the handle.

Send your barcode as an EAN or UPC number, plus the correct label size.

Write a short label text list, including product name, size, weight, and country of origin.

Ask for one printed sample of the label and package before the full run.

Review it in your hand, not only on a screen. Light, size, and color change a lot in print.

Once the sample is approved, sign it and keep it as the reference for the batch.

Repeat the same file set with every new model, so the process stays consistent.

Keep a version number on each artwork file and each specification sheet.

When you change a label, tell the factory in writing and confirm the new version.

Small brands lose real money on wrong labels, because returns are expensive.
